For this Melody Spotlight, I had the pleasure of chatting with Austin-based artist Ramiro Brave, a rising star whose love for dance and music has guided his journey into the studio and beyond. Inspired by the electrifying world of K-Pop and a passion for self-expression, Ramiro is carving out a space of his own in the music scene. His sound is a seamless blend of pop, electropop, hip hop, and contemporary influences, reflecting his ability to connect with the pulse of our generation.

Could you please take a moment to say hello and introduce yourself to our Melody Magazine readers?

Ramiro Brave: My name is Ramiro Brave. I am an Austin, Texas local artist. I make pop and R&B music with a little bit of a K-Pop ring in it. I've been making music since 2017. I work with producers such as Joseph K, who produced music for groups like BTOB and Paul Kim, which is pretty cool. Right now I'm currently working on my upcoming album with Joseph K and also with Ming, who has worked with artists like Beomham. I'm very excited. This upcoming single, “Daydream” is something I'm veryoud of and that's something me and Ming have worked on for about a year now and now it's finally coming to the world and I'm excited.

Ramiro, you are an incredible dancer and performer. Tell us a little about how your dancing journey began?

Oh my gosh! You saw videos? Yeah, my mom actually started dancing when she was a little girl and I think that got attached to me. I feel like it wasn't thrown at me, I just really started enjoying it when I saw her dancing when I was little. As I got older, my friend Samantha asked me, “have you ever heard of K-Pop before?” This was back in 2012 when B.A.P’s “Warrior” came out. Iconic times! So that is when I started my K-Pop journey, and I started doing K-Pop dance covers and I also started to do my own formations in the dances. I didn't realize how much I loved it and so I started doing dance competitions. Seeing people, you know, asking me for advice. I was like, “Okay! This is something that I can do for the rest of my life.” Then  music came along and I was like, “Oh, no! This is what I can be doing for the rest of my life!” While dancing, of course!

Over the years you’ve released a few songs such as Body Roll and W4U. Can you tell us about your creative process?

Yes. Ooh! The process is weird. I could either A) Be walking somewhere or B) I could just be sitting down thinking of a melody or thinking of lyrics. Then, I'll send it over to my producer and he will tell me if it’s good or not. From there, I'll just go into my bedroom and I'll start recording a melody before the instrumental happens. Then he’ll come up with a format of the instrumental base, and then we'll have a little FaceTime call. From there we do the rest of it together. For “Body Roll,”, I'm trying to think about how that came about. I think it was on “chocolates and strawberries night.” I was literally just at home watching movies. I think I was watching “The Cheetah Girls.” For me, it’s always like that. It just comes up spontaneously.

Are there any artists that inspire your creative approach for your music?

Prince for sure! I feel like if you heard my first single from 2017, I had a lot of references for drumsets from his song “I Would Die For You.” So definitely Prince, Cindy Lauper, the Bee Gees, and currently NewJeans. I don't know, there's something about NewJeans style that is so refreshing. I love it! That’s the sound I am moving towards.

Your new single, Daydream, will be released in January. What can we expect to hear in this release?

So I am releasing the dance and music video in December, and then the album and additional releases on January 10th. When I first started performing here in Texas, I was into suit pants, button up shirts, and neck ties. For Daydream, I was like “Let’s go for baggy jeans, tight shirts,” and really I just want to show myself and my style more. I am really excited for all of the upcoming songs that I am about to release, but “Daydream” is the song that made me go “Wow! I am really proud of this.”

Is there a particular message you want to deliver across to your fans with this release or are you still experimenting?

For the “Daydream” it's really just giving out the message of happiness. My album was originally supposed to be called “I'm sad,” and that's one of my songs. One of my songs is literally called “I'm Sad” featuring G.K. Fun fact thought, when this track was done, we literally erased half of my album. I kid you not! We erased half of it, deleted it, threw that out the window, and then restarted fresh. I was okay with being sad, and it’s normal to be sad, but I want to try to bring as much joy and happiness to the crowd through my music and make them happy. I want to let them know that if you're going through something, no matter what it is, it's gonna be okay. I'm right by your side. I'm here for you. I don't know if you've seen any of my performance photos, but I always have flowers printed on my clothing, and with the more intimate shows, I pass out flowers to the crowd. It's just a way of me saying “Hey, I’m with you!” It could make someone's day. I think that’s the idea at the center of the album. Obviously there’s songs about heartbreak, but at the end of the day the message is that everything is going to be okay.

You recently performed at the YAR Music Festival in Austin. Tell us about your experience! Do you have a favorite memory from this weekend?

I was gagged!!! Every artist who performed there was amazing and I learned so much just from speaking to them. Seeing all of them perform so passionately on stage was really inspiring. Every moment was memorable but after that weekend, I went back and looked at videos of my performance and for the first time, in a long time,  I felt like I was truly in my element. I usually critique every performance that I’ve done, and I am very hard on myself. I watch these videos and I tell myself “I can work on that a little bit more,” and I will go and rehearse again until I get it down. But, when I looked at my YAR performance, there was none of that. The energy I felt from that stage was just phenomenal and hearing people sing my songs back to me was just very touching and I was like “I love this. Let’s keep this going.”

Are there any artists, producers, or dancers you dream of collaborating with in the future?

I would love to collaborate with V from BTS one day. One day! As for dancers, KATSEYE dancers are so great! I would love to collaborate with them one day. I am also going to South Korea in June, so I would love to collaborate with 1 Million Dance Studio if possible. I hope I can make something happen! I am good for producers for now, maybe in the future I can collab with NewJeans’s producer.

You’re making a remarkable breakthrough in the music scene so Melody wants to share as much about Ramiro as possible. What is your favorite color?

My favorite color is yellow!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

This is a hard one, because I have been so busy, especially recently. I would say just laying on my couch with my dog and watching movies, zoning away from the world, no phone, no nothing!

What emoji would you choose to describe yourself?

You know the nail (manicure) emoji? That’s me!

Well Ramiro, thank you again for taking the time to chat with us. I really enjoyed this interview. Is there anything we have left out that you would like to share with your fans?

Yes! Keep a lookout for promotions, performances coming together in 2025, because I feel like this will truly be my year. Thank you Melody Magazine!
