OFFICIALLY Coming To You Live
By. Alicia Zamora
We all know him as DPR Live but all of us are here to see him in his new journey as Dabin. The Artist born Hong Dabin, otherwise known as DPR Live, is a South Korean rapper and singer. Also known for his work with Dream Perfect Regime (DPR), he’s always had an authentic vibe to him, one that no one can quite outdo or replace.
On October 9th at 7 a.m. Dabin went live on Instagram to make an announcement to his fans. He looked really nervous while making the announcement, but he explained how he would be putting DPR Live on pause and that he will now work as a solo artist in the meantime. He is now taking a small break from DPR Live and will be performing under his given name Dabin. He also mentioned that he formed his own company, Coming To You Live.
Dabin gave us a sneak peek of how his new album will look with his pre-release track “Till I Live.” Dabin has never been shy when it comes to being emotionally open with his music. That’s the good thing about DPR as a team; they always know how to connect raw emotions with music, making both devoted fans and first-time listeners feel heard and seen.
This pre-release song was full of emotions, with the beginning of the chorus starting off with a soft piano and then transitioning into an upbeat song. It brought me back to one of his old songs. It felt as if he was letting the story continue with this specific track. One of his older songs “Till I Die” feels connected to “Till I Live.” It feels as if he’s completing the story by describing where he is at in his journey now and how it’s turning out for him.
The transition from being known as DPR Live to Dabin along with his own company Coming To You Live couldn’t have been easy. In the song translations that were posted on YouTube by Dabin’s team, he sings, “You ain't got no idea, what I've seen is my brother's blood. That's word to Ian, word to Cream, and to the rest. Y’all know more than anybody else, money aside, this shit we shared was from the fucking heart.” It’s great to know that they really are more than just the team and their family and you can really see how Dabin appreciates them in this song.
The song itself was so beautifully written and well composed. You can tell that he put his all into it because you can instantly tell that you’re about to get a song full of raw emotions.
With the melody, you can feel the type of emptiness that he perfectly portrays in this song. Putting in the lyrics “In the end you are a disappointment” and ending that part with “Your existence is a disappointment.” You can hear it in his voice how it came straight from his soul. Towards the end of the song, you can feel the big shift in energy where it gets a lot gloomier. He ends the song with a phone call from his dad.
Having doubts about what the future would hold for him, Dabin knew he had the support of his DPR crew and dreamers. With that being said I know the future will be bright for Dabin and he will do great things in this new chapter of being able to release the music he’s always wanted to release.
